In our attempt to help out a customer that couldn’t care for Maverick anymore, we stepped up and said we would find Maverick a forever home.
Maverick always did great when at Daycare or Boarding at Villa La PAWS Shea. He loves the Counselors, loves and gets along with all of his playmates and prefers his own crate at nights. In fact, if he gets tired during the day he will go into our Special Care area and put himself in his crate for a little R&R.
We reached out to one of our Rescue Partners, AZ Paws & Claws (second row, 3rd from theMavrick2 left) and they graciously accepted him into their adoption program and started promoting him for adoption. They have done a wonderful job for Maverick and after all we’ve done it’s been almost three Years!
Maverick has been to numerous adoption events and acts out so badly that they had to crate him and bring him back to the resort. We put him in behavior training class with a Rescue Volunteer and he PASSED the class only to revert to his old ways in any public setting.
We have had Counselors, people he knows, trusts and loves take him into their homes as a foster with the goal of eventually adopting him. If there is any other pet in the house, dog or cat, he goes berserk. If there is another person in the house that he doesn’t know he goes psycho.
We sincerely believe that Maverick’s quality of life could be so much better in a single family home where he can express his love and appreciation once he trusts everyone and everything around him.
We are committed to the transitioning of Maverick from a pseudo-permanent resident at Villa La PAWS to a productive member of a forever home.
He will need a special home with understanding and discipline. Maverick is extremely possessive of the people he cares about and must feel comfortable in his environment. If you’re looking for a dog that will protect and guard you, Maverick is your guy. Of course he will greet your friends and family that visit initially as threats to you and he WILL protect you.
We will provide additional training, at our cost, to build a lasting trust and rewarding bond between the new owner and Maverick. We will also pay the associated adoption fees for Maverick.
We take responsibility for keeping Maverick way beyond what our Rescue program allows, that’s our fault. We don’t know if we have enabled him to be the way he is in the outside world or not but he deserves better than what we can give him.
Watch him on our webcams at Shea. Call (602-442-7833) and ask us which room or yard he is in and we will instruct the Counselor to point him out so you can watch him interact with other dogs and staff.
Want a meet and greet with Maverick? Call us and we can set that up where you can come meet him in a controlled environment and see the potential this dog has.
